Hi. I am planning my trip to Tioman Island this August and would like to know about good snorkelling places which can be reached just swimming straight from the beach without necessity to rent a boat.

During my stay at Tioman I would like mainly to snorkel but also take a few dives and do some trekking. After thorough research I came to conclusion that the most suitable place for me to stay would be Air Batang (ABC) due to its central location allowing access to jungle trails to Juara and Salang, and due to some remarks about good snorkelling along the beach north off the ABC and on Panuba Beach, Monkey Beach, and Monkey Bay (but I am open to comments on this decision too). I do plan to take some snorkelling trips to places like Renggis and Tulai islands but these are too expensive to do it every day.

Could anybody please provide any detailed information about specific places to snorkel off the beach around Air Batang? Thanks.

We stayed on Tioman earlier this year - it is a really pretty island.

We stayed in Juara which has a really love beach, but there waves can be a bit strong for snorkeling and it costs 15GBP to get transport one way across the island.

You can walk over there, but it's a 7km walk through the jungle - not easy with a back pack.

Lots of people stayed at ABC and the ones we spoke to liked it.

The diving is great we went with Tioman divers who are based about 15 minute walk up from the airport.

The walk through the jungle is amazing, we were there early in the season so we didn't see another person, go early take plenty of water. We saw monkeys, flying squirrels, tons of lizards, masses of birds, snakes, some odd ferret things - basically, a lot of wild life Smile

Amazing place.

theres plenty of great snorkelling right off the beaches. Last time i was there i saw huge bumphead parrot fish, barracuda and turtles real close in.

In fact, i enjoyed the snorkellin as much as the diving Smile enjoy!
