Can anyone recommend a place to stay in Cebu city and/or Davao city? I'm headed there without a guidebook so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Don't really care what type of accomodation. Price is more important. Something under $20 per night.

I've spent a lot of time in Davao working, and in fact will be there in a month or two, but my hotel is paid by the customer. There are many decent places between $45-70. Davao is far from a backpacker haven(I've never seen one there), so I'm pretty sure that hostels in the traditional sense are non-existent.

We use a company based out of General Santos for much of our local labor. They send 20-40 guys up to Davao, and they have no trouble finding VERY cheap accommodation which usually includes meals. It is "Philippine style" though all the way. Usually dorm style with no mattresses and no window screens. They pay $7-10 per day. I've heard that there are slightly better places for closer to $20. I think any and all of them will not have websites, phones, or reservations. You will just have to ask around when you get there. There never seems to be any shortage, even when 40 guys pile into town. Hope this helps.

Christina in Brooklyn would probably know more, but she seems to be AWOL lately.

Thanks for the info. I broke down and bought a LP my last day in Bangkok. Got one dirt cheap near Khao San Road.
