Hi everyone

I've read all about Mongolia and the LP guidebook is full or recommendations about 'pulling over to the side of the road and pitching a tent...'. I'm wondering if anyone has rented camping gear in Olgii or Ulaan Baatar and what the quality is.

Also, curious if anyone has recommendations (email addresses) for drivers that can be hired in Olgii. Given the gas prices these days, does anyone have a current-day 'standard' rate that I should be aware of while negotiating prices? I'll be there next month (July 2008).

My goal is to:
1) get from Hovd to Olgii with driver / jeep
2) get from Olgii to the Tavan Bogd National Park (and back) with driver /jeep
3) get back to Hovd (reverse trip from #1)

The time frame for this is about 2 weeks.

If you arrange a trip through a travel agency or guesthouse in UB, they can usually get you camping gear as well. Perhaps some will rent the gear even if you don't book a trip through them. Otherwise try to buy it off a fellow traveller (check the message boards in the guesthouses and other tourist hangouts), or at the big department store on Peace Avenue. I don't know about tents (as I brought my own), but I bought a sleeping bag for less than 10$ there (and donated it to an orphanage at the end of my trip). It was a fairly basic one, but warm and comfortable enough.
