Hullo everyone,
I hope all is well in your parts of the world, especially in times like these... for all Americans, my heart goes out to you and your losses- please know that us Canadians are here for you.
Now for the question- I am leaving for a 7 month adventure to south east asia with my girlfriend, departing oct 8... how risky is it to travel right now? If the US starts bombing Afghanistan, what type of risk do we run in Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Laos? Help!

Muchos Gracias, Shandell*

If I was on your trip I wouldn't worry. Vietnam and Thailand are somewhat removed from the areas you'd expect to be targets for Middle East related violence. Malaysia is a muslim country but on my 2 visits there in '84 and '93 I didn't get the sense it was an extremist place. Most people were friendly and there wasn't the stress on what you can wear ( shorts etc ) that exists in other muslim countries.

I would say have a great time. This is probably a good part of the World to go to forget about the troubles.

i was gonna ask the same ques - i'm leaving in feb/march (depending on funds!) and a british female travelling alone, with israel stamped on my passport - i'm not paranoid but am i gonna be at greater risk than before the attack?
i'm also concerned about the rising tensions in sri lanka - a country i've dreamed of visiting since i was a child! apparently there's a high risk of tourist abduction!
(i do sound paranoid don't i?!!)
i'm booking my RTW ticket soon though, so i guess i should have a clear(ish) idea of what my plans are - so will they have to change?
