Hi

Whilst in india, im going to Kerala to visit the backwaters (Oct/Nov). This is part of our trip we're trying to make less back packery & relaxing semi-luxurious break!

Can someone recommend a good route? Im now flying into Kochin but distance is not problem for better route. Prob not looking to go by more touristy Alleppy. We want to see wildlife, float along by palm trees shrub etc, relax in peace (w/o loads of other people!), perhaps see odd sight all the usual stuff for abt 2-3 nights.

We are looking to hire houseboat not cruiseliner! (some luxury but at reasonable price) for 2 people where perhaps we have someone local on board to cook etc as this seems to be norm.

Can anyone recommend a company where they had good experience? We prob want to book something in advance bc havent got time to spend there looking & negotiating.

Your help is much appreciated as there is so much info on internet i would prefer to go with fellow travellers recommendations Smile

Cheer sara Smile

All these places are very beautiful.

Thanks rajuindia.

Im looking to only do 2 night backwaters tour, ideally starting from Kollam and then ending somewhere further north. Unfortunately, wont have time for much else in Kerela this time. If anyone can recommend good routes for backwaters and companies they hired houseboats off? Have done lots research over net and its difficult to tell whats good and whats not.

Thanks s

I'm pretty sure if you rent one of those houseboats in Allepey they will just take you where you want to go.
Those boats looked proper nice, even I was tempted to bust out the credit card.

book it when you get there, there will be plenty (I would be wary about booking anything in advance in india). We paid 5000 per night over xmas which wasn't too bad considering its the highest of high seasons for them. You should get it for 3-4000. Beware though that they do stop at 6 sharp every evening so most of the time you will be parked by the side of the river with plenty of more houseboats. that was my experience anyways....
