Hi all,
Well, I've googled/read reviews here on BootsnAll of various places and I know a bit about places to possibly stay (Suk 11 for intance), but unfortunatly I'm in sort of a strange situation where I can't make a reservation anywhere because I'm flying standby. I actually just found out a few hours ago that we'd (probably) be leaving tomorrow. Anyway, here is my question: Where is a safe, easy to get too, OPEN FOR LATE ARIVALS, hostel/hotel/guest house? I don't mind paying 1000+ baht (just for one night, I can't sustain that budget!) if it makes the day/night easier. Next day we'll probably look around Khoasan Road. Anyway, anybody have any recomendations? Help would really be appreciated! |

Lost in Place |
I've stayed at the Amari right there in the airport before. It's not the most exciting place in the world, and is definitely overpriced, but it's convenient for a late night arrival.

Here is a list of hotels. When you are at the airport you can call and some of them will take a reservation over the phone.
http://www.thaiwebsites.com/hotels-sukhumvit-bangkok.asp http://bangkok-city.com/hotels/index.html http://www.sawasdee-hotels.com/ There are hotel booking agents at the airport. Some of the hotels they book for are not right in the best touristy parts of Bangkok and some are. You could do one night and then change to a better location. Here is a hotel that you can check out. If the hotel has no vacancies there are 3 other hotels on the same soi. Business Inn Hotel. (Not far from Swiss Hotel which is not far from Suk 11 Hostel.) http://www.awgroup.com/hotel/hotel_index.htm Bangkok Inn, President Inn and Narry Inn also on this same Sukhumvit Soi 11/1. Taxi goes down Sukhumvit Soi 11 and takes a RIGHT TURN into the Soi 11/1 cut out before the Swiss Hotel. After the turn, the taxi will pass by the Narry Inn, President Inn and Bangkok Inn and then the Business Inn. From Sukhumvit Soi 11 you can see the Narry Hotel sign first, turn there. Other cheap hotels are in this area. These hotels are near the Nana Skytrain stop. http://www.guidetothailand.com/maps-thailand/bangkok-upper-sukhumvit.php Good luck. *********************** Travel the world now before you get too old to do it! |

Just wanted to update: I ended up staying at On Nut Guesthouse - I made a mistake that I was smart enough to avoid - I took an un-metered taxi. The whole time the guy kept saying, "so far, so far" etc, perhaps trying to build up for a larger price. Originally we agreed on 350 baht, however to avoid any issues I just gave him 400. I believe this is ~100 more than I should have paid, but it was late so oh well. Plus the driver got lost (I truly think he was lost) and it took us 40+ minutes as apposed to 20ish.
Anyway, On Nut Guesthouse is pretty nice, Manji seems like a really cool guy and I actually flew from Narita (Japan) to Bangkok on the same flight I was on. Small world. I'm staying here for 2 more nights, then I figured I might check out Suk 11 if I can get a reservation there. If anybody has any recommendations as to where I should head next (after Bangkok), I'm sort of undecided as to what I should do next. Thanks all! Kev |

Hi
Has taxis gotten cheaper in Bangkok? When I went there a couple of weeks back we paid 300 Baht going into town and 200 going back...both on meter. Anyway, if you want some yips on Bangkok feel free to check out my Bangkok trip report with pictures http://gardkarlsen.com/Bangkok_trip_report_2007.htm :-) Have a great stay in Thailand. |
