A moderator several weeks ago pointed me to the Cathay pacific all-Asia pass because I posted here I was interested in going to Asia in May. Unfortunately the pass expired before I was traveling. My question is that does anyone have an idea of what is the best way to travel through Asia in a few weeks?

I would either do trains or planes to get me from countries if possible.

Right now I am looking at New York, Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, maybe to tokyo then to New York.

I am looking to go during the month of may.

What would be a reasonable fare to pay? I am trying to stick to Oneworld Alliance as that is where my miles are. I know in 2007 they are being joined by Japan Airlines as well as other Asian Airlines.

Thanks

Josh is off to Europe soon, but in the meantime read about his past trips around the world I'm 24, why isn't 100 countries and 7 continents realistic in a lifetime...40 and 5 down...

Air Asia has cheap prices on flights to most of your destinations if you book the tickets far enough in advance. Look for Malaysia Airlines All-Asia pass too. They often have that type of deal.

The current Malaysia Airlines AccessAsia pass has expired, but they will probably have a new one in the new year. Keep an eye on this page:

I have the same question. I am also going during the month of May.

My wife and I were going from Los Angeles to Shanghai, Beijing, Xian, (possibly Hong Kong, one or two undetermined destinations in China for about 2 weeks). Then going to Vietnam for one week, and Thailand for one week.

Initially we had determined to try utilize the AllAsiaPass, but I know that we want to take the train from China to Vietnam, and after spotting cheap flights to China from this site I was wondering if there was a way to make it cheaper by arranging the individual flights ourselves.

We are definitely on a travel budget so I want to figure the cheapest way possible.

Also checking into the Asia passes it seems like the Chinese cities I mentioned aren't generally included. I have heard that Plane travel within China is reasonable. Is that true?

Hi there,
the most convinient way to travell in Asia is by air. Check out some of Air Arabia offers as it's quite reasonable. I am located in Dubai, Middle East. If you like to pass by check out:

If you're going to be on limited time and want to see different places rather than tour, then flying is certainly the way to go.

The only trains you can do are from China down to Vietnam border (transfer) and then train length of Vietnam, and also trains in Thailand and down through Malysia to Singapore - www.seat61.com.
Very limited east west train travel available.

In addition to air asia, have a look at jetstar, bangkokair and tigerairways, laosair etc., all airlines being shown on www.asia-budget-airlines.com or www.attitudetravel.com if the former is not working which it don't sometimes.

Eppyboy, you can travel by train or by bus from Singapore to Malaysia, it takes around 4-5hrs journey to Melaka if you go by bus, and takes longer hr by train (but the next station from Singapore to Malaysia is in Negeri Sembilan). If you are going from Singapore to Malaysia by bus, I would recommend you to spend some night in Melaka, the historical city. And the best is to stay in Melaka during weekends, coz there's a night market in Melaka just for weekends. Then you shouldn't miss KL, which is around 1-2 hrs journey by bus.
