Hello.
I'll be finishing my RTW in August 2009, will probably arrive at Singapore in June 09. Now, I've been planning on making my way by land up to Thailand, then through Cambodia into Vietnam. Now, I've found that sadly it's the rainy season in these parts then. How much will this impair my travel in the region? Other factors are that I really REALLY don't want to meet leeches, so am going to avoid any sort of jungle in the area. I'm also a little wary of our friend Japanese Encephalitis. I'm swaying against having the vaccination, but as its the rainy season I'm not fully convinced I'm making the right move. If anyone would really recommend against the area at this time of year, where else in Asia would you recommend instead? Cheers |

Hi
If you are moving northwards from Singapore in June, consider going up the east coast of Malaysia. It's the best time of the year for stuff like snorkeling, diving and beach hopping. You may want to consider Tioman Island, or Redang and the Perhentians. Lots of nice beaches along the way too. Detours may include Taman Negara (forest park) and Lake Kenyir. Yes, June is rainy in many parts of Indochina. I was in the Mae Sot area in north Thailand, and outside of the town area the tracks became extremely muddy and lots of surface flow. |
