Hi guyz, llove to visit Shenzhen too while in HK because
it's a touted to have cheaper shopping.
1)What are the means to get there from HK,is the bus a cheaper option?
1)l want to buy Chinese books and CD/VCD/DVD there as l know it's cheaper than HK.Which are the places for such bargains? When were u there, maybe u can tell me the latest hip shopping area-Luo2 Hu2 etc.
2)Which are the attractions l should not miss-Windows of the world,
Chinese cultural village etc? What about open bazaar/flea markets/night
food street?
3)How many days should l spend in shenzhen?Or is just a daytrip from HK good enough for both shopping and attractions?l mean do l need to take a bus to different places or are they all near the train stations/customs within walking distance?
4)l read about Happy Valley YH in Shenzhen, have u stayed there,is it
safe and clean. What other cheap lodging is available?
5)Should l change RMB in HK or Shenzhen and if so where is the safest
to change in Shenzhen?
Good Day!

I went to Shenzhen a couple of times back in '94 when I lived in HK. The place has definately ungone a make over from the time when I was there and it was 'constructionville'.

Being a border town it has that atmosphere of a place where people flock to. There's shopping, restaurants, hotel, vagrants and all that other stuff.

toanswer your questions :

I assume you'll be downtown, in which case you take the MTR ( subway ) up to Prince Edward, then change to the KCR ( regular train ) to the border.
You can get there in an hour an its not that expensive, no need to book up or anything. You get your visa at the border and just walk on through to Shenzhen.

Haven't been there recently, so don't know about shopping.

I checked out the Chinese cultural themepark as well as Window to Our World. As a westerner I thought the latter was the most interesting, it takes several hours to see the whole thing.

I ate at cheap restaurants which were fine, no difference from the ones in HK.

If you want to shop and see the themeparks, eat etc, I suggest a 2 day trip.

The theme parks are some ways away and you'll need a bus or taxi. Restaurants and hotels are are very near to the station.

Can't remember where I changed money. I think it was near the visa place.

Shenzhen is quite safe and you'll have no problem.

Take care.
