i want to spend 2 months in Georgetown this coming winter (early January - early March). I am looking for safe, budget-priced slef-catering accomodations in the historic centre of Georgetown. Any suggestions?

Hi Brecky,

Why not contact some of our Insiders for Malaysia. Some of them are experts on Penang and might be able to point you in the right direction.

I was in Penang a couple of times this winter and there were two newer hotels that were very popular because they were clean and well run. One was The New Travellors Lodge and the other was The Green Olive. People were staying for a month or more in the first one. The Cathay Hotel is a lovely old colonial hotel for 20.00 US if your budget can afford that for a long stay.It has the high ceilings, lots of mahogony and big ceiling fans out of Somerset Maugham.
