Lost in Place |
Is there a area in Siam Reap similar to Bangkok's Khao San Road. Can anyone reccomend a part of town to stay in?

Siem Reap and Bangkok are altogether different sorts of places. Siem Reap isn't really anything more than a small town . It has a bunch of guesthouses and restaurants etc but really the town itself is fairly small.
If you want to be in the heart of things then stay in the Old Town area but really, wherever you stay your a $1 Tuk Tuk away from the restaurants etc of the Old Town. I stayed at the Peace of Angkor and have nothing but praise for the place. In fact I'd go as far as to say it MADE our stay in Siem Reap! It is a little way from teh Old Town but nothing that $1 moto/tuk tuk wont fix. Like I said before though, Siem Reap is a relatively chilled place especially compared to Bangkok. I dont think there is really any parallel between the 2. |

bangkok and siem reap is like little league baseball to major league baseball...it is peanuts in size...old city is nice, great nightlife as people pour in to the streets, great bars with music...

I'm not trying to compair Bangkok to Siem Reap. i was just wondering if there was an area of Siem Reap with a higher concentration of backpackers such as the area of Khao San Road.

James,
No, there is no part of Siem Reap that is comparable to KSR in Bangkok. That being said. Just take a bus from the airport for $5 to Siem Reap center and find your lodging. There are plenty of cheap hotels in walking distance, internet cafes, and western restaurants... which all attract us backpacker types. I'm not sure what the area is specifically called but Siem Reap is not big enough for you not to be dropped off there if you ask to be brought to the city center. ________________________________ When the son of the diposed King of Nigeria emails you DIRECTLY asking for help, you help.
