I'm planning a trip from Australia to Europe either September this year or next year and on my way back home I want to stop off for about 5 days for a relaxing end to my trip. I was thinking somewhere around Phuket or Bali.

I am looking for a quiter area where I can stay at a nice hotel or Vila on the beach and have my choice between relaxing on the beach or venturing out to sight see (but not where I have to travel 8 hours by car to get to the airport)

I am not a surfer so prefer a flat water beach, and looking for something that is not crazy busy, but not only for couples as I'll be on my own.

I've heard Thailand has better beaches and nicer relaxing resorts to stay at.

Can anyone reccommend places in Thailand and/or accommodation that seems close to what I'm looking for?

thanks

In Thailand, go to Ko Lanta big sandy beaches and is pretty quite. It's about 4 hrs (by boat) south of Phuket.

Or how about one of the quieter beaches on Ko Samui? Choeng Mon is laid back and really nice - and a short songthaew ride away from Chaweng if you want the occasional dose of tourist restaurants, bars and souvenir shops.

Hi foxygirl, I am in Patong (Phuket, Thailand) right now and have been for the past 6 weeks. So far the weather has been great with not too much rain at all. I was also here last year late September/early October, same time as you plan to travel, and it was also great then !!

I hope you don’t mind but as a lone female traveller it was refreshing to find a nice guest house that specialises in female travellers as well as couples. No beer swelling men or bar girls coming and going was very comforting I can tell you and I felt quite safe (unlike some other places I stayed in). I think is European owned but is run by friendly Thai staff, its cheap as chips but clean and has sizable double rooms all with en suite shower, air-con, cable TV, Wi-Fi etc. When you first get there it seems a little weird because the guest house has a beauty salon below at street level, but don't be put off... not far to go for a manicure and pedicure! I felt very safe and would recommend this guest house to any travelling females, especially anyone travelling for the first time to Phuket.

Its only a short walk away from Patong Beach and to all the action, Bangla Rd. For any one who isn't familiar with Patong it is very much a "mans town" with endless girly bars down Banga Rd but don't be put off... there are lots of great night clubs and bars and there is lots to see and some great new shopping places to visit like Jungceylon too !

I know you were looking for a quiet vacation but to be honest if you’re not in Patong you will find it very quiet indeed as most of the other towns on the island go to sleep until end of October/November so you might wish to reconsider as although Patong Beach is always quite busy there are other beaches, for instance Freedom and Paradise beaches within 10 mins of Patong if you wish to escape, just jump a Tuk Tuk or hire a scooter/moped.

Anyway, I do not have an email address for the guest house, but their website ( which is very basic) is www.samesamephuket.com and their phone is +66 8153 83331

Other quick tips are only pay 100 baht for any Tuk Tuk in and around Patong, great food at Dangs Cafe (especially their breakfast) close to the Jungceylon end of Bangla Rd..... OH and never TIP more than 10-20 baht in restaurants !

If I can be of any help on other matters please send me a message…. and I hope you have a great vacation !

I recommend Kata beach in phuket it's around 30 mins from Patong. Patong is more crouded and busy, Kata has all the nice restaurants and rental shops and nice beach which is much quiter.

Best of Luck!

Hello Hello,

If you are looking for a quite area, i would stay away from Phuket, in my opinion its a little too much, very crowded, but with that being said there are some nice beaches.

I would agree with Nomadic Matt, Koh Lanta is a great option, definitely quieter, beautiful island. There are alot of choices for smaller quiter Island once you get to phuket.

Safe travels Cool

Hi

If you are going in September you should keep in mind that it is the rainy season and from what I have heard, it rains more on the west side than on the east side. So maybe you should consider Samui instead?

As long as you avoid Patong, Phuket is not too bad at all. Nearby Krabi is even better, but 1 to 2 hours away by bus. I stayed at Kamala Beach last year, which was great. Rockfish restaurant is expensive but wonderful. It costs 200 baht to go between beaches by taxi though. The tuk tuk drivers charge the same.
