Bangkok to Yangon
Departure Feb. 2007 I'll like to get my visa for Myanmar in Bangkok and book my flight with Air Asia for a departure the next day - how feasible is this? I was also wondering if I could exit or enter via Kawthoung on a 28 day visa? Has anyone been to Ngapali or Ngwe Saung beaches? are they worth the detour? Thanks Jim L. |

Kawthoung from what I have read is just good for a day entry, usually as part of a border run.
I would have a look at www.projectvisa.com to get an idea on getting a visa and why just the day before. As to flights booking that way, it's like trying to look in to that crystal ball but you could always try by seeing if you can book a flight tomorrow but then it could be different next time - keep trying as you get progressively closer to intended fly date and when you cannot get a flight, well that's when you will know, and then book the day after the intended (hopefully) |

You can certainly get your visa in Bangkok, but you may not be able to get on a flight the next day. Plus, the visa process itself might take 2-3 days as it's not very organised at all.
IIRC, I arrived in Bangkok on a Monday night, went to the Burmese embassy the first time on the Tuesday morning, got the visa on the Thursday, and the earliest I could fly to Burma was the Saturday. Of course, you might get the visa more quickly than I did, but as I recall, you need to have the visa before you're allowed to book a flight. |
