I went to Shenzhen a couple of times back in '94 when I lived in HK. The place has definately ungone a make over from the time when I was there and it was 'constructionville'.
Being a border town it has that atmosphere of a place where people flock to. There's shopping, restaurants, hotel, vagrants and all that other stuff. toanswer your questions : I assume you'll be downtown, in which case you take the MTR ( subway ) up to Prince Edward, then change to the KCR ( regular train ) to the border. Haven't been there recently, so don't know about shopping. I checked out the Chinese cultural themepark as well as Window to Our World. As a westerner I thought the latter was the most interesting, it takes several hours to see the whole thing. I ate at cheap restaurants which were fine, no difference from the ones in HK. If you want to shop and see the themeparks, eat etc, I suggest a 2 day trip. The theme parks are some ways away and you'll need a bus or taxi. Restaurants and hotels are are very near to the station. Can't remember where I changed money. I think it was near the visa place. Shenzhen is quite safe and you'll have no problem. Take care. -nick- |
