We're in Penang right now and are trying to figure out the easiest way to get to Krabi in a few days. We read that you can take the train from Butterworth to Hat Yai, then catch a bus from Hat Yai to Krabi. The train leaves at 6am and arrives at 11:20am. Is it possible to catch a bus in Hat Yai during that time of the day? Any better suggestions?

We also heard you can hire a mini-bus, but I have serious stomach/nausea issues while in a cramped vehicle for a long time. We would much prefer one of the cheap, yet large buses like you can get throughout Malaysia if it's available.

Also, any tips on a clean place to stay in Krabi for a night before we head to Ko Phi Phi?

Two Global Nomads

We were in Hat Yai last month, once there, there are a ton of travel agents who can sort out transport. The bus terminal is outside the city, but it seemed the most common to arrange transport in the city and in the price was the cost to take you to the terminal.

We came to Phuket, but it seemed the same, lots and lots of mini buses going all over.

Thanks Dharker. We decided to suck it up and take the minibus the whole way since it was cheaper and faster. Hopefully my stomach holds up!
