Hello there

I have been traveling for the past 2 months or so around Singapore and Malaysia and about to head up to Thailand, but on the 26th May my girlfriend fly out to meet me in Bangkok, she only here for a week so we would like to spend 2 days in Bangkok and then onto some beach, but it has to be quite close to Bangkok as she is only here for a week and dont want to spend much time traveling.

So could anybody recommend somewhere for us please, looking for a really nice beach and if anyone could recommend a really nice hotel that would be a great help, closer to Bangkok the better but if needs be within 3/4 hours travelling of Bangkok. (not flying)

Thanx in advance.

Too bad you can't fly as Phuket is only 75 minutes away.

Phuket's Best Beaches

Some of the out-of-the-tourist-zone beaches are beautiful and almost deserted this time of year!

there is a beach town called hau hin which is about 40 min south of bangkok. not as nice as phuket, koh samui and the like, but it'll do the trick. accessable by bus from the main terminal in town...

Koh Mak is nice. Great beaches, good choice of accomodation and it's close to Bangkok. http://www.kohmak.com/

I would always head for the Andaman coast, the Krabi area in particular. The main beaches around Bangkok are okay if you're a fat northern European looking for "love". But if its beautiful relaxing beaches you're after I would say Krabi any day of the week. Also I think you'll be surprised just how cheap it is to fly; check out www.airasia.com and flying may only be a few $s more than train/bus and take you less time!

Have a fantastic time, hope this info is useful

I don't know about the Krabbi Seaview recommended by shyrbaby, but on the whole I wish I'd skipped Pattaya. I agree with the "fat northern European looking for "love"' comment.

Koh Chang - Lonely Beach. for sure.
its just under 4 hours by bus plus another hour on the ferry and suangtaw to get there, but is so so so worth it. it was my favourite beach destination in Thailand by far.

otherwise, Koh Samet sin't bad either. its kinda cool cos its where a lot of young thais go so if your out at night the crowd is a real mix, which is not sometyhing you get that often in thailand, where the tourist and the locals are so often segregated into customers and staff.

hm..phuket is now low season and hotels are pretty cheap now but too bad it's also the start of monsoon season and some islands will be closed and it's also dangerous only phi phi island that you can visit all year round. i'd recommend you to visit any island in the gulf of thailand on the east coast instead. Samed island is only 3 hrs by bus from bangkok and it's holy beautiful there @_@
i don't recommend pattaya...eew..
