Depending on your budget off course, there's trekking
Get up to Pai, and further afield That Ton is not a very big town but you can catch river boats down to Chiang Rai and then hire a motor scooter to ride up to Mae Sai on border with Mynamar and/or over to the Golden Triangle area on the Mekong.
Mekong river in that area has beautiful sandy shores just like a beach and good spot for a few days break if looking for somewhere.

Thanks!
Actually I think I will check out Pai, but I've already been to Chiang Ria, Golden Triangle, Mae Sai, done hilltribe visits, etc.

I sort of have to stay in Chiang Mai for this next month to research papers and such, so I was just wondering about cool hangouts in Chiang Mai. We're staying on campus at Chiang Mai University , so it is kind of out of the way from the city but it's only 10 baht to get into the city really.

My budget is quite tight! Any cool discos, hangouts, cafe's, etc? For example, last night we stumbled upon free salsa lessons which were great!

Thanks,
Amanda
