First storm of the season has not failed to materialise with six deaths and quite possibly more as recorded here
Worth noting for any travellers to the Phillipines that their tropical wet and often stormy season starts earlier than mainland SEA/Indian sub continent season and will go just as long, ie. into October.

This storm came as a big surprise since it's summer here and heat was terrible. Some domestic flights have already been cancelled, same with all the ferries going to the Visayas.

[UPDATE] According to this article, the death toll is now at 26.

Don't mind me, I'm just wandering.

Yes Nina, though like anywhere in the Tropics there are longer summers so to speak not confined to the more standard 4 seasons three months and I had alway thought it was usually later into the wet season that storms arose.

Perhaps the ferry captain thought it was not going to be as severe and reason why he set off.

Hope that you stay out of harms way there and loss of lives, injury and damage can be minimal.

the rainy season in the philippines starts early may. the month of may is supposed to be summer but the weather is very unpredictable. we have light to heavy rains almost everyday on the 2nd half of may until august. when travelling in the country, better come prepared with a raincoat or light jacket to combat strong wind brought about by the changing weather.
