Any suggestions for good guest houses on Khao San Road? and bad (insect/cockroach) infested or scam ones to avoid?

Due to an infestation of bedbugs there, I can no longer recommend KS House Guesthouse.

Shambara Guesthouse is pretty nice. It's in an alley off Khao San. It's near where the action is sans the noise. It's pretty small though, so better reserve your room well in advance.

Don't mind me, I'm just wandering.

I suggest getting off Khao San Rd. There are plenty of nice places nearby. I stayed in two different ones on Phra Arthit (I think that was the name of the street). Sorry, can't think of the names right now and I don't know where I put the business cards... I'll try to find them.

I like Sweety Guesthouse in the alley near Burger King. (Walking out of Burger King, turn left, then left again at the first alley. Down the alley on the right is Sweety.)

It's cheap with little cubicle rooms, but it's quiet and well run.

We loved Shanti Lodge. It's is a bit north of Kao San, but definately worth staying at. It's very near a river taxi stop. www.shantilodge.com for more info.
