I just watched the whole 6 hours on DVD a couple of weeks ago. I enjoyed the first few episodes then it kind of went downhill from there.
Generally speaking each hour long segment started strong then got weaker as the interview went on - with the strong % of each segment decreasing as the episode # increased. I posted this because ... I thought no Spiritual Forum would be complete without some mention of this seminal work / man. The interview with George Lucas is interesting. One way this program has helped to change me is by changing my views on religion/supernaturalist beliefs. While I don't believe in anything supernatural per se now...I begin to better understand why people do, and why I did before. This is important to the book I am writing (Fiction) and will write (Non-fiction). Now I think each set of myths is like a language. Whether that be the myths in a religion or otherwise. As they are written, they are true - in serving a purpose. (basically what Campbell says) The problem comes when we take the myths as literal reality in a modern world. Of course...some will want to argue this myth vs literal point...but I'll say watch this program first. Of course...go travel to spiritual and scientific sites of significance too - outside of your religion/belief system. And watch the Journey of Man with Spencer Wells. then come and debate (me). |
