"You cannot stay on the summit forever, you have to come down again. So why bother in the first place? Just this: what is above knows what is below. But what is below does not know what is above." -- Rene Daumal

I LOVE that.

excellent quote-- I've copied it and added it to a file full or quotes I've been keeping for years. Thank you. Here's one of my many favorites in return:

“We act as though comfort and luxury were the chief requirements in life, when all we really need to be happy is something to be enthusiastic about.” -- Charles Kingsley

I always liked this one, I think I might've posted it in the other thread, but im not sure.

"When shut out of a room, you must not peep through the keyhole. Either break down the door, or go away" Dag Hammarskjold

I used to remember loads of little things like these:-
It's not the size of the dog in the fight but the size of the fight in the dog

Worry is time spent on something that might never happen.

To wish you were someone else is a waste of who you are.

.... and so on. Now I just listen for inspiring lyrics in songs.

Yes there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run
There's still time to change the road you're on....

I may have posted these elsewhere before.

There is only one success…
to be able to spend your life in your own way,
and not to give others absurd, maddening
claim upon it.
Christopher Morley

Do what you can,
with what you have,
where you are."
Theodore Roosevelt

On the view of Earth from 3.7 billion miles away:
"Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home, that's us. On it, everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every 'superstar,' every 'supreme leader,' every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there - on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam. There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known."
Carl Sagan, "Pale Blue Dot"

May the forces of evil become
confused on the way to your house.
George Carlin

The road of truth is long,
and lined the entire way
with annoying bastards.
Alexander Jablokov

'To live content with small means; to seek elegance rather than luxury, and refinement rather than fashion; to be worthy, not respectable, and wealthy, not rich; to listen to stars and birds, babes and sages, with open heart; to study hard; to think quietly, act frankly, talk gently, await occasions, hurry never, in a word, to let the spiritual, unbidden and unconscious, grow up through the common- this is my symphony.' William Henry Channing
