Hey Madhu,
Could you pass along the contact or more info for the place in Chiang Mai? This one in Surat Tani is the one you spoke of in your blog, that you actually went to? I wanted to do it, but I just realized it would mean spending new year's eve there, since I only have january to do it... Not very keen on spending new years eve 'retreating'...

that goenka one is about a meditation technique called vipassana, which im sure you'd know by browsing that site. i took my first 10-day course in australia when i was 16, and it was a challenge i'll say, yet very benificial. it was the only real meditation style that worked for me, also providing me with an OOBE or two. fun stuff Smile

i hope to take a few more courses during my travels, and perhaps help out as a senior student. the good thing about it is that it is free, providing board, cleaning and food. though one shoudnt go for only this reason. they accept donations so i usually throw in whatever i can to help the cause.

hope that helps.

Interesting stuff!

I've been doing a bit of reading on the subject, wondering if it'll help with some cranial organization. Cool

I was about to post a question about meditation asking if there are any decent books on the topic!

Are these meditation techniques a form of zen buddhism?

Looks slightly different from the stuff above. Check out the differences between the links already listed and what is spoken about here:

A different teacher being the first thing that comes to my attention. Siddhartha Gautama vs Gotama Buddha (The re-discoverer and teacher of Vipassana 2500 years ago... per the Dhamma site: http://www.dhamma.org/vipassan.htm )

That being said, I dont know enough about the stuff to give you anything but a "Poke" at it!

Siddharta Gautama and Gotama Buddha are the same. All branches of Buddhism come from the original teachings of Buddha. There are diff schools of Buddhism..Theravada (Hinayana), Mahayana, Vajrayana. Mahayana in Japan transformed to Zen Buddhism.

Meditation techiques are quite a few...their end objective to clear the "mind" of all thoughts.

Lot of research on the subject..I personally have not read any books and cannot recommend any.My knowledge is very much at the surface.
