A Refuge of the Hyborian Age |
I live because I perfer it to the alternitive. But I'm curious If any one has an actual reason to live. Some thing that makes you fight the grip of oblivion every morning. And helps you get through your day. So that if for no other that one thing makes you happy you made it through another day.

I live for sunrises on rivers with streaks of low fog hovering just over the water,
gekkos, Thai food, Indian food, desert sunsets, swimming in warm surf, meeting characters, animals that come up to you as if they have missed you terribly, friends who love and accept me as I am, playing mild practical jokes, flying, pretty hikes, architecture, the feeling you get in old churches, even if you aren't religious, having a laugh, flirting, sharing experiences, cooking, arthouse films, auditioning, etc... I try to be thankful for all the little things because the big things are too rare and big problems can sometimes be too hard to solve. _____________________________ "Fate loves the fearless." - James Russell Lowell |

quote: Good philosophy Annie. I'm still trying to get myself into this mindset but it's been quite a struggle for me. The main fuel for my fire right now is traveling. It's what gets me thru a job that drains me, 40 hours out of the week, knowing that i'm working to save money for a trip which i will hopefully embark on in april. And i also live for the weekends, which is not good b/c as my grandmother said, "you end up wishing your life away" so i hope that this trip will change some things for me, internally and externally so that i can be more satisfied with just the little stuff. and here's the rest of my list: friends and family being outside in a beautiful landscape i second the old churches thing seeing/doing new things music laughing connecting with people on a meaningful level taking trips with my dad, just me and him where we talk about everything and sometimes nothing making my dreams come true, whatever they may be, and knowing that i can look back on my life without regrets sue |

Hey Sue, a friend told me that if you try to achieve happiness you never will, but if you do things without considering happiness, you'll find it. Strange paradox, but it appears to be true.
It's a tough place to be in when you really want to be anywhere else. Right now, I am in a place (both geographically and emotionally) where I wouldn't change anything. That isn't to say that everything is rosy, but it could be a whole lot worse. Where are you going for your next trip and when are you taking off? What do I live for?
Travel. Learning. New experiences. Quiet, solitary moments in beautiful surroundings. Unbridled sexual passion. Trying to make the world a little bit better. Oh, and... Star Wars. (I gotta stay alive so I can see Episode III!) -- "Qian li zhi xing, shi yu zu xia." - Chinese proverb |

Not the First Dork |
This might seem really dumb (i.e. obvious), but I live for LIFE.
I live for experiences, for hope, for knowing that there could be something phenomenal and beautiful around the corner, for knowing that I need to *live* and really appreciate the fact that I'm alive (difficult to do if I'm in what I term a 'funk'), and that I need to take advantage of every opportunity and not get stuck in a routine and in a rut. Experience as much as possible...without getting boxed in. Also -- one has to look at the world with a wide lens -- looking at the big picture (in terms of my individual life and life at large) is much more satisfying than getting stuck in the details. Lynn PS - the natural world - plants, animals, beautiful scenery, long hikes, climbs, treks through the wilderness - is what keeps me sane. It's all of the 'people stuff' that can really bring me down - meaning society at large, not my individual friends and loved ones. |

I live for creating something that others can appreciate - artwork or a story that someone who I'll never meet, reads and gets some pleasure or enjoyment out of. To make a tiny addition to the vast collection of human existence, and not simply exist without lasting purpose.
I live for the thrill of new experiences, and a lot of the time for self-gratification if I'm being honest - for me to enjoy and learn and gain from this journey. But I also live for the hope that the majority of people will wake up and not drift through life allowing the Earth to be raped, or for the human race not to commit cultural, spiritual and actual suicide via consumerism and selfishness. I live for words. And places. And flying. And dreaming. And silliness. And people-watching. And learning new things. And that perfect moment, in that perfect place, when suddenly you are at one with God, the universe and everything, and you know it really is worth the trouble.
______________________________ As societies grow decadent, the language grows decadent, too. Words are used to disguise, not to illuminate, action: you liberate a city by destroying it. Anne,
Yeah i've heard it too. Happiness is not the end result but the by-product of how you live. Which i completely believe. So i'm not pursuing happiness for the sake of happiness but rather trying to figure out what it is that i think will bring me happiness. And right now i think it's traveing but we'll see! My plan is to backpack thru western europe, leaving in early april and coming back ????? So any words of wisdom on how you reached your current state of contentment? Sue |

I live for me. I didn't do that before and I wasted too much time. I'm almost where I want to be now. I live for what I've accomplished and what I set out to do. I live for how far I have come. I live for me, now.

quote:Hey Sue - I have actually thought about whether or not I have any sage words and to be honest, I don't think it's that simple. For instance, I am not always happy or content, but I KNOW that I wouldn't change anything about where I currently am. I am where I am for a reason and I obviously have something to learn while I'm here. Six months from now, I'll be in a different place, doing different things, but I'll be unlikely to want to change anything. I accept that my choices have lead to where I am and I own every bit of responsibility for it. I also accept that life is not always fair and that people aren't always what I expect. Sometimes this is good, sometimes not. I have also realized that I need to rest when I get tired, I need to look at what I'm doing if I'm unhappy and I need to do something (anything) if I feel desparate. I heard a line somewhere that goes 'you may not have what you want, but you should want what you have'. Cheers, A _____________________________ "Fate loves the fearless." - James Russell Lowell |

What do I live for?
I live to love everything and everyone around me. The sky, the sun, the sea, the earth, the people, the animals... That's why I like travelling: you can have a bunch of experiences in such a little time and in the same time be 100% free. Life is not houses, cars, bank accounts, money and fame...it's experiences, love, dreams (coming true of course) and joy! (May sound utopic but I believe that, that is life) Travelling: Not a will, not a hobby, not a mania, not even a passion. A dream. |

I live because I'm not quite sure I'll find the restfulness I hope for six feet under.
I live because I think that if I can impact one persons life, if I can improve one persons stubborn existance, then I'll have completed mine. I live because I don't know the answers to the questions I ask. But mainly I live for my family. ______________________ Don't worry, I tend to make a big deal out of everything. Keep on keeping on. |

to have fun-
if it ain´t fun, i try not to do it. be happy- if you aren´t, change it up and do something else. could mean a relationship, a job, etc... too many people get caught and trapped into lives that they don´t want. i´m determined to not be a person like that.
