Armchair Traveler |
I have some crazy stories, they don't have a lot to do with travel (maybe a little around the US and Canada) but it just had to do with experiences. I was heavily into the body modification world, travelled for a independant magazine I wrote for to way too many horror and comic cons, and finally travelled some for wrestling.
Then I met "him", perhaps you know him. Too controlling, too judgemental, just too much of an idiot. And I fell for him, hard. Sadly, I can tell you the day my "life" ended. All that travelling, meeting, socializing, taking myself out of my comfort zone stopped. It was working a "mom" job, cooking and cleaning, drinking at home and watching TV. After two long years of torture I thought "this is the worst decision I have ever made my entire life" and I changed it. We broke up, I moved out, he moved out of state and then all was well, right? Wrong. I'm still stuck in this rut, I work long hours, weekends filled with nothing and I'm sick of it. Again, I've decided to change it. I'm headed to Ireland, solo. I could get 19 days off of work, so thats what I'm taking. Hopefully, this will break these ties... |

Good for you! I know how hard it is to break out of a relationship with someone who wants different things out of life- I just came out of a similar situation. I too felt limited by the relationship and, though he was a real good guy, I just felt that he wasn't excited enough about life. His idea of a weekend was sitting around and drinking while I wanted to get out and explore. When I left, I actually moved across the country, so that kept me from falling into a rut. But it's hard, no matter what. She keep forging ahead! Ireland should be a great way to spread your wings again.

Ever since this guy I've been introverted, which is so completely different then how I use to be. I'm really hoping that this will force me to talk to people again. I find it difficult here in California, people are a bit stand-offish if you don't know them and just talk to them out of the blue.

Hey uber, It's official, you're going to be my guinea pig. I too just broke up with my b/f (of 8 years) we wanted different things too. And i too am going to ireland, before i hop over to Australia. So you can go forth and break your ties, and you can come back here and tell me if it all worked! Get riled up in a pub, get drunk and harass some tourists with the locals, and see the sights, so i know which onces are hidden and i should go see too. lol Have fun chicky!
--Diana Check out my Travel Blog It's currently out of date, been a little lazy... But i'll get to it soon. (Did I also mention I was a procrastinator????) |

talking to people doesnt mean they have to talk back! hahaha
seriously though, just get in the practice of -genuinely- talking to people, and youll break out of the social rut at least. It may help to go somewhere else, but its kind of like thinking the grass is always greener on the other side (being ireland though... this concept doesnt hold much weight If you cant break those ties here, its always possible ireland will help. i never think of travelling as some sort of escape or fix (though that may be more due to my "religion"). If you think the grass is greener on the other side, it ALWAYS will be, no matter what side you are on. I say, try to fix it here! Environment will also dictate how social people are, if you are just trying to talk to people walking down the street, they are less likely to talk with you than someone at, say, a bar. With all that being said, ireland, simply as a travel destination, is supposed to be absolutely amazing (i only say "supposed" because ive never been there!) Have a blast when you do go, but dont go to fix problems at "home!" Just my .02 though. creation as opposed to reaction |
