Hi. I'm going to India for six months to backpack, and have a few questions.
I've heard there are a lot of Western backpackers who travel to find themselves, staying in ashrams, learning to meditate, finding serenity, and dreadlocking each other's hair. I've encountered these types traveling in southeast Asia, meditating on the beach (only when there are other people watching them), going on about "mother India," and affecting heavy bliss, dude. Sort of like the movie "Holy Smoke." Are there certain areas in India where these sorts tend to congregate? I'd like to avoid those places. Thanks in advance. |

Many places - you could list the places you have on your wish list and I can pigeonhole ones for you. You will, however, be in a sort of a catch 22 situation here - do you want to avoid otherwise visitable places because you might run into fakes and wannabe's? |
