I will be in London in about two weeks and anticipating the likely weather situation, I would like to do some outdoor drinking - a few beers in the parks most likely.
Is drinking outdoors legal in London? Or simply discouraged?
With that said, where is the best place to get your drink on? Can you just walk down the street with beer in hand like in Rome?

There is another post here on the London boards that contains all the info on drinking outdoors - You'l find it here about 2/3 of teh way down teh page.
As far as likely weather goes...We've had teh worst rains for some years over the past few weeks so if you're expecting sunshine, think again. This is England, it summer, its wet!
As for the best places to drink...Pick a pub, any pub and tehn maybe another...its all about the pubs. If somehow it does turn out nice then a beer in one of the parks (Regents park is a fave) is doable.
Just about everywhere has pubs and bars etc, depending on where you are staying wil depend on teh best place for a drink. Personally I love Camdene for a night out but its very much a case of what you're into will pick where you go.
I am going to London in a few weeks, and my friend tells me that the weather has been crap these past few months. I really hope it gets better, because I want to do some drinking outside some cool pub.

Salmalina - it can only get better - we've had the wettest and coldest May - present period since records began (about 400 years) - been mixed lately some sun, some rain, mostly grey and averaging about 21c/ 70f but hopefully it'll get warmer and sunnier by the time you get here, we're due a break!!

check out the beerintheevening site for pub reviews.
I like to drink up behind High st. Ken and on the Kings Road but that's because i dream of marrying a young wealthy socialite.
Grab a drink in Soho and watch all the hustlers do their thing.
Or check out the pubs along the river in Hammersmith, Chiswick or Richmond.
If I'm out in Covent Garden it's nice to grab a guiness from anywhere and just wander off outside..you can sit at sevendials and watch the world.
As long as you're not a 15 yr old, drinking bad cider from a can whilst shouting abuse at people waiting for the bus, you shouldn't have any problems with police.

Ah street drinking... one of the great things about London. Nothing like cracking a beer open on the tube ride after work on a Friday afternoon to truly frighten your fellow communters and make you look like a booze hag. Good times.
I remember once walking down the street with my boss and co-workers all blatantly passing a joint around too so I'm pretty sure that's not totally off limits either within reason.
Have a great time, I hope for your sake and mine you bring some sunny skies with you!
Jacquie - tell us what you're into (music, vibe, etc, etc) and we can give you tips on where you should go. London has everything and anything so you'll sure to be satisfied

I like to do anything! As long as I can drink. Eventually its fun to end up dancing after lots of drinks..but I like to start out a little more mellow somewhere that I can hear people talk and get lots of cheap drinks. Then I would like to be close enough that I can go dancing or hear some good music once I am good and drunk

Shoreditch, Spitalfields and Brick Lane it is then. Try the Commercial Tavern, Big Chill Bar, Vibe Bar, Ten Bells. Plenty of clubs and music venues to fall into later on

Try my local The Drayton Arms on Old Brompton Road (Gloucester Road tube), stagger next door to the legendary Nam Long for a Flaming Ferrari, and then go over the road to Eclipse to party with the Princes...
