So on impulse, I decided last week to buy some really cheap tickets I found on a website to go to London on Thanksgiving break (Nov 20-26) to see my friend studying at UCL. I won't be able to be with her the whole time, so I would like some suggestions on must-see things or unusual/exciting things to do there. The first and last time I was in london was in 1997 and I was ten. I vaguely remember going to the Tower of London and the Natural History Museum and Madam Tussauds.
I'd prefer things which are cheap/free and to look at places with vintage shops. But all suggestions are extremely welcome! |

There are a whole mess 'o Londoners here, but for some reason they are not speaking up. Perhaps they are not sober. While we are waiting, start here. I am fond of the junk markets such as the Brick Lane market. I also like the Transport Museum.

Hiya Gerbils...
Here's something I wrote in another thread not too long ago...Its pretty much what I would have said to you so no point rewriting the whole thing....enjoy So what should you do in London? Well it depends what you like....Culture? History? Sport? Nightlife? Food? All its all here and more...and you know what..it DOESN'T have to cost an arm and a leg! Lets look at the free stuff... Tate Modern - Probably the best modern art museum I've ever been to. Amongst the Worlds finest! British Museum - Give yourself a full day with a decent lunch break if you wanna see even half the stuff in here! National Gallery - Classic art and some of teh worlds finest! Science Museum National History Museum Victoria and Albert Museum All world class....all free. (If you only do one make it the British Museum!). Take a walk around the London Eye, go up if you wish..head over Waterloo Bridge...see the Houses of Paliament...Go see Downing Street, Trafalagar Sqaure, Leicester Square, Picadilly Circus, Covent Garden, the outside of Buck Pal. Guess what...ALLL FREE Drinking is soooo expensive right??? Think again. If you wanna go cheap side, grab some beers from the supermarket. Can work out less than 50p per can. Try a weathegrsppons if you wanna go out....they have several drinks on special all day every day. Food? Grab a meal deal from boots or some other supermarket. Get your sanger, crisps and a drink for less than £3. Or try the street stall or noodle places dotted around. £3-4 for a huge plate. Oh and don't forget a nice Curry...go to Brick Lane for the experience. Catch a football match (yes THIS IS EXPENSIVE) but if you love sport, then its here, all over the place. there's live music all over! Check the local listings...Bands or Comedy for under £5. Check out Camden if music is your thing..oh and visit the market! have a walk around Soho, see Chinatown, walk around Mayfair or take a walk along the quiet Fitzrovia. There is sooooo much to do and see and I've hardly scratched the surface! The rest of the thread is HERE and there's many otehr fab ideas as well. Feel free to ask any more questions you have, we're always happy to help! Hope you enjoy your time in London! |

LondonCard gave you already a very good overview what to do in the City.
There is everything in London, so we would really love to hear what you like. I would go to British Museum myself (well, I go there every time when I have a chance). Tate museum is awesome too! But let us know what you are interested in, and we are more than happy to provide tips for enjoying London! hi I would recommend getting the London Sightseeing Pass. Its kinda a passport for london and gets you into 55 (i think!) of londons top attractions (e.g. Tower of London, Windsor Castle, London Zoo, Kensington Palace)
In some places you also get to skip ques, and get some discount in resteraunts etc. Cost wise you can get 1/2/3/4/5/6 day passes but i'm not sure how much it actually costs. Here's the website: official website |

Since it's past the OP's trip, it would be cool to hear how it turned out.
In addition to the above, I would surely include a walk down portabello road, including the portabello market, stopping in at S & M (Sausage & Mash) for a bite whilst there. I would also include a walk thru the Borough Market. And, if coming from the US, NEVER forget the current exchange rate. A few 2-pound coins here & there for a coffee or water could be REALLY costly! Example--your walking about, and decide to grab a coffee. You hand over 4 2-pound coins, since it feels just like change. That's $8.00 US...a lotta' smack for a cup of joe. The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page. ---St. Augustine |
