South African Trekking the World

Hey All

Was wondering if you had advice on 2 things for me.

1) what is the best way to get to heathrow for a 6am flight, I am guessing being there by 3am is a good idea. Am looking into a hotel in Victoria station area.

2) does anyone have a hotel near the airport that is inexpensive that you can recommend.

This is for my parents and am trying to help them plan. They are looking for an inexpensive place / route to get to the airport. Also my mom has MS and has to walk with a cane, so we are looking for the most convenient place.

thanks

My guess is that they would have to travel by coach from Victoria which would not be very convenient, so staying in a bed and breakfast near the airport may be amuch better option. The departure time is awkward, but many places arrange transport for early departures and it would be much quicker getting to the airport from there. Depending on the airline, your parents might be able to check in their luggage in advance which would make things easier.

Here's a list of some of the cheaper places. We stayed in a cheap hotel near the airport once and they were extremely efficient in getting us to the plane, but I can't remember the name (it was years ago).

Actually I suspect that the Coach to Heathrow is fairly convenient. I think it takes around an hour...so if you are staying at a Hotel near Victoria that would be perfect...

You can take a bus at around 1.30am to Heathrow and that should get you there in plenty of time...

In my opinion it is much better to do that than pay for a whole night at an expensive hotel near Heathrow and have to leave at 3am...

there's always the heathrow express from paddington station. a bit pricey at £15.50 but has to be the most convenient way of getting to heathrow airport. and quickest, takes 15 min only. and there are plenty of cheap hotels around paddington station, hundreds of them really.

hope it works out well.

It's gone up to £15.50? At that price, (since there will be two people) they could take a taxi.

well we have it all sorted, thanks for all the advice. We found a very nice fancy hotel that is almost part of Buckingham palace it is so close (and we got it for about 98pounds a night for 2), little higher on the price than my parents wanted but for one night they agreed.

Then they are going to stay at a little place near the airport that has a shuttle.

So alls good!

Can I ask what hotel? I used to work three doors down from The Mews (sorta like the Palace stables) and know the area well...

The Heathrow Express, nor the Underground, run at that early hour. You will have to take a bus, or a mini-Cab. Mini-Cabs are cheaper than Taxis. Any hotel can help you book a Mini-Cab. The price from Victoria to Heathrow should be about 35 Quid max. A Taxi will cost about 50 minimum!

If you google/search around, there's usually discount codes & promo codes for the Heathrow Express that take a chunk out of that ticket price.

Heathrow Express from Paddington or the Journey Planner from wherever their hotel is (two buses link the Victoria Station to Heathrow - 1:20 tt).

National Express DOES NOT run before 07:00 so it won't help you.
