I'll be in London for most of this coming week and am trying to minimize my transportation costs. I'm staying about 10 miles from the city center, and if I take the tube there it will be about 4 quid round trip. Buses are apparently much cheaper, only 1 pound, but I have some questions.

1) Can you transfer from bus to bus for free (or for less than full fare?)?
2) Are there buses that would take me from Greenwich to the city center?
3) Can the Oyster Cards be used on most buses?
4) How the heck can I figure out which bus to take before I go? I tried looking at the maps online, but they seem to only show the city center routes. I'm staying about 2 miles southeast from the North Greenwich Tube and don't mind walking there. If I can get from that station to the city center on 1 bus (1 pound), that wouuld be ideal...Any suggestions?

Me again :-)

Have replied on the other board but here's the link I provided again in case you don't check that one - http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/gettingaround/maps/buses/pdf/greenwich-2106.pdf

Bus to bus transfer not allowed I'm afraid nor bus to tube.

Buses are £2 cash or £1 Oyster. Oyster can be used on all buses, even way out in the suburbs.

Greenwich is quite nice for a quick wander. Has a market and naval museum (never been in it but should be free admission). Unfortunately you've just missed the historic Cutty Sark ship which used to be moored in Greenwich as it caught fire during restoration work :-(

To work out what buses you need to take check out the TFL journey planner. It will tell you what buses, tubes, and trains to take to get around london.
