Hello, my wife and I will be in London on May 3. On May 7 we are renting a car from Stansted, returning it on May 9 (and leaving the UK from Stansted to Munich). We want to go to Stonehenge and probably Salisbury. For those of you familiar with the area, do you have any suggestions for this area? All suggestions welcome (hostels/cheap B&B's, restaurants, etc). For Stonehenge we are planning on doing some 17 km or so hike there (and bus back to our car).

I did Stonehenge and Salisbury as a day trip, so I really can't help you out with overnight accommodations. However, the British Tourist Authority is wonderful, especially their "book-a-bed-ahead" program. All you have to do is give them a price range - they can book a room for you on the spot or one day in advance at your next destination. I used them extensively in England since I didn't always know where I would be on a given day and was never disappointed..

FYI, Salisbury is a wonderful place to visit - the cathedral is incredible and has a marvelous collection of documents, including one of the 4 original Magna Carta's.
