Has anyone used the Rosetta Stone Language programs? I'm looking at purchasing one. They look to be pretty good, although a little expensive. Any advice?

First, see if you can check it out from your library. They are pretty spendy but I can get all sorts of amazing language programs including, I'm 90% sure, Rosetta Stone. If your local library doesn't have them see if a nearby library does and will do an interlibrary loan.

Free stuff rocks. Libraries rock. Rock Out

Which language?

And ditto the library suggestion. You want the knowledge from the materials, not the materials themselves.

Calilucy's right. Go to the library. RS is too expensive.

As for whether or not they're any good, it depends on the language. Their western language programs have always proved good for bulking up, but at least one native speaker of Arabic has told me that their Egyptian and Eastern dialect programs aren't very accurate.

What language are you trying to pick up?

You can find very good deals on Ebay.

As a user of both Rosetta Stone and Pimsleur (Audio CD's) I'd suggest starting with Pimsleur. It helps you get a grasp of grammar and basic phrases. Rosetta Stone is very good, but it's better suited as a vocabulary builder.

You can go here http://shopping.netsuite.com/c.440887/site/PimsleurDirect/languages.htm and listen to a Pimsleur lesson. If you like it, head to Amazon to purchase it. You can usually pick up a set for around $140.
