I am hoping some of you might have reviews of Spanish language schools in Quetzal. There are so many out there and I don't really trust online reviews, so your experiences are very valuable. Does anyone have a favorite (or least favorite)? Did most of them have activities every day, and were the homestays pleasant? Were the teachers good for people who have had a good amount of Spanish instruction? Looking forward to some advice!

I went to Escuela Minerva several years ago. I found they assigned me a good teacher, and had adequate outings.

The housing there was iffy, and I never have been lucky in the assignment of housing. Both times have resulted in more trouble than it was worth. The second time I only paid week by week, and so, i went to Casa Margarita, a hostel where I paid about 8 dollars a night for a single room without bath.

This was a while ago.

I spoke less Spanish, but at least the family wasn´t spelling out common items in Spanish to me, and giving me Pasta and horrible hot dogs to eat every night.

Other people have had positive experiences, I´m sure. I´m just saying that its the luck of the draw when families are assigned. Avoid continuing with a bad draw by NOT paying a month in advance.
