Is 3 weeks enough to visit SA from Johannesburg to Cape Town, including 4-5 days in Kruger? or 4 weeks would be more reasonable?

I hope so we are travelling from Cape Town along the garden route to Durban and possibly going to J'Burg, but that isn't a must. Its the lst 3 weeks of my trip where my friend meets me so I hope that is long enough cause we cant even extend our trip. We are going to use Baz's bus.

Time is what you make of it, you'll never see all you want which is the beauty of travel. I also want to leave think Ill come back rather than bored because I've tried to do everything.

I am over for four weeks next month but am working for three and only get 3 days in cape town, so we are getting the train to j'burg to add somthing differant.

Just give yourself enough time to enjoy what you chose to do and dont rush to fit it all in or you wont enjoy a thing.

Mandy - are you there now? whats the weather like, its raining here still!

4 weeks is better than 3 and 5 weeks is better than 4 etc

But your certainly have enough time, to travel, see stuff and relax along the way.

The weather at the moment is getting chilly in CT, with a bit of rain.

Rugby tomorrow!

Time and money are definitely things where the more you have the better. I meet many travellers trying to do the JHB to CT in three weeks thing... Its too quick. You will end up rushing around the country and seeing more of the inside of a car or bus than anything else. What I would suggest is that you choose three regions and concentrate on those. For the bigger stretches try taking domestic flights - they can be extremly cheap. There are three main budget airlines: Mango , 1 Time and Kulula

Possible itineraries:
JHB to Kruger and Back
fly to Durban -> Baz Bus to Port Elizabeth and then fly Cape Town...

or

JHB to Kruger through Swaziland & Zululand to Durban and then fly to Port Elizabeth and do the Garden Route to Cape Town...

Hi Izzy and Mandy,

The Garden Route is without a doubt one of the most spectacular parts of South Africa. My favorite drive (so far) is actually the portion from George to Mossel Bay (along the regional R102 - instead of the N2). A close runner up (but not really on the Garden Route) would have to be the road/pass from Oudtshoorn to George.

But whatever you do, don't miss the Garden Route! You can check out my blog at http://lizandtobi.blogspot.com for more info and/or ideas.

Cheers,
Liz
