So here's the deal, I'm a 27 year old female travelling alone. I have done some small trips before but am off around the world in February for at least a year most probably more. I plan to do most of it by myself but thought I would start things off nice and easy with an overland tour. I selected a tour which starts in Kenya and I booked a flight to Nairobi. After further investigation I found the company I had first chosen to go with (the Overland Club) had some pretty bad press so changed to (Oasis Overland). This means that I have a 2 week lag between getting to Kenya and starting my tour. Now this is far from the worst thing in the world, however, the more I research it the more I hear bad things. Can anyone suggest good places I should go while I'm whiling the time away before my tour starts?

Don't worry, you'll have a great time in Africa! Where you should go depends on where your tour is going (I'm assuming you don't want to duplicate stuff.) Maybe some time on a beach? I hear Lamu is gorgeous! Another option would be to come to Uganda (I'm living there at present) which is beuatiful and often not on tour itineraries. Check out Jinga (source of the nile, rafting and bungee jumping) Queen Elizabeth park, and Murchinson falls. There's also gorilla tracking, and some beautiful islands in Lake Victoria.

There is a lot to do in that area. Kenya has some great beaches and hiking and a number of parks so there are bound to be some that your tour will not include that you could check out. maybe the abadares or lake naivasha and hells gate. you wont have any trouble filling 2 weeks.
