Hey, Madhu -- for Moshi, I recommend the Buffalo Hotel. It's clean, reasonably priced, has satellite TV (it's where I discovered MTV India and Bollywood clips!), a good restaurant, and is a good place to hang with other travelers. On my first night in Moshi, I stayed at the Y which, while clean with a friendly staff, seemed to only have high school students as other guests. After wandering around Moshi trying to put together a group for safari, I soon ended up at the Buffalo Hotel, and ended up switching there for the rest of my time in Moshi. It's a fun place!

In Dar, I stayed at the Safari Inn. The staff was friendly, the room was basic but clean, and the restaurant was pretty good. It didn't have as much of a traveler's scene, as I recall, but it was, all in all, a pleasant place to stay.

And, sorry, but I can't for the life of me remember where I stayed in Stone Town on Zanzibar. I think that's because it was nothing special.

Hope this helps!

I checked out the old threads and made some notes of the recommendations.

Xoom:Since you are going to Zanzibar before the Hike do take notes for us.

Hi

Its been a while since I lived in Tanzania, but I used to stay in the Embassy, or in one of the hotels along Ocean Road. Also there is a great expat community there, try a place called The Little Theatre, you are sure to meet a lot of helpful people.

Regarding Moshi. You will be passing through Morrogoro (great german Deli) If you stay on the road up to Mikumi junction there is a bar/diner and guest house called Genesis.

In Zanzibar, I used to stay in the Fishermans Warf

Have a great trip, i lived in tanzania for over 3 years, its cool, enjoy every moment, im green with envy

When in Dar, make sure you go to South Beach. It is over the ferry and through Kigamboni, and is truly the most beautiful beach I have ever had the pleasure of visitin. The day we were there, we were the only people,,,ah bliss.

What ever you do don't stay at Narrow Street Hotel in Stone Town, Zanzibar. We stayed at Amaan Bungalows on N. Beach and two of us paid extra to get rooms with our own bathroom and showers so we had hot showers for the first time in about 3 weeks. Every once in a while you have to treat yourself or you'll end up going mad.
