I visited Zambia in Jan 2003. Its a beautiful town in a country devastated by AIDS and crime.
I do not otherwise recall a great deal except that there is a very nice crafts market near a hospital. I am told there is a market called Soweta, which my friends urged to avoid at all costs. There's another 'downtown' area on Cairo road which is nice. The local newspapers are very interesting. I recall a story about an errant minister who had a juju charm which was supposed to guarantee invisibility. He was running away for some crime and was completely convinced he was invisible. He was horrified that the police found him and resisted with all his might. If you could have stayed a day extra I guess you could have gone to Victoria Falls. Have fun. Vasudev |
