Hi Everyone,

This is my first time posting. I just want to say, what a great forum! I've gotten lots of very useful tips from the discussions.

I'm climbing Kilimanjaro in September, followed by a few days on Zanzibar. Can you please make a recommendation on the flights between Kilimanjaro and Zanzibar for me? Precision Air wants US$360 for return airfare. I was hoping I can find something a little cheaper. Is US$360 the going rate? What has your experience been, and with which airline?

Thank you kindly!

Angela

Assuming this includes all taxes (including departure tax from Zanzibar) and fuel surcharges, it is the going rate for a round-trip ticket. If the ticket was purchased as part of an international ticket, you might have saved $100 or so, depending on which international carrier you used, but as a stand-alone ticket, that is most likely as good as it gets.

I have asked a similar question. You might want to check the difference between that flight and one to Dar. You can take the ferry from Dar to Zanz. Africaholic will probably know if this would save money though.

No significant savings, AND certainly NOT worth the extra time it would take. What ever savings you may have in airfare, you'll spend on meals or transfer from Dar airport to the ferry terminal, and possibly overnight lodging in Dar es Salaam: After climbing Kili, you most likely won't fly out of Kilimanjaro Airport until at least mid-afternoon, and by the time you get to Dar and transfer to the ferry, you may not be able to catch the last ferry out of Dar, and will have to spend a night. Your time AND money is much better spent on the non-stop flight from Kili to Zanzibar, even though it seems high.

Depending on where you're off to AFTER Zanzibar, you may want to buy a ticket from Kilimanjaro to Zanzibar, and from Zanzibar to Nairobi, Addis or Dar es Salaam - unless of course, your international flights are already ticketed to fly out of Kilimanjaro.
