I plan on being in Mali about 1 1/2 months. When I called the embassy of Mali in Washington D.C. about applying for a visa, I was told I would need hotel reservations for my stay in Mali.

"For the entire month and a half?" The woman said yes at first. When I explained that I didn't think I would be able to book everything that far in advance, I asked if a travel itinerary would work (I like to travel spontaneously, but thought I could make something up for a compromise).

She said that probably that would be alright. Probably? I can't be the first person ever to apply for a visa without solid travel plans for my entire stay!... Does anyone out there have experience with this?

We got our Mali Visas at the embassy in berlin. They didn't ask for any reservation, but I did send a copy of the flight tickets including return flight.
