My wife and I are going around the world, and we've scheduled about 2.5 months in Africa starting on August 1, 2008. I just feel totally confused about where to go when, and I would love to hear what you have to recommend.

Here's what we'd like to do:

  • Driving safari. We'd love to see the wildebeest migration.
  • Walking safari. I'd love to do a real backcountry safari, where we carry tents etc.
  • Drive yourself safari/exploring. Namibia sounds pretty good for this.
  • Relax. Preferably in a place that has some nature to that admire, whether that is pretty scenery, water holes, or snorkeling.

And of course we want it to be cheap. :-) I'd like to spend about $100/day, plus maybe $2000 for safari-ing. (This is for 2 people.) I don't know how realistic that is.

Currently, our itinerary shows:

  • Aug 1: Namibia
  • Aug 25: Tanzania
  • Sep 25: Egypt
  • Oct 15: leave Africa

We could juggle some things around, and end up in Africa starting a month or 2 later, if that helps.

I just keep reading things, and there's so much information that it's kind of overwhelming. I'd really appreciate any suggestions/recommendations you'd care to share.

Thank you,
Tim
