Armchair Traveler |
My upcoming trip to Durban was supposed to be 2 weeks volunteering in an orphanage. Since I am now contemplating extending it into a RTW trip or at least across Africa, will I get in trouble with the government when the airline realizes that I'm not on the flight back home? I don't want the SA government trying to hunt me down because they think I'm trying to become an illegal immigrant!

Knows What a Schengen Visa Is |
nope.
how long is your visa/stamp for? South africa wont care as long as u have a valid visa/stamp. if you want to stay longer you could try to get an extention or leave SA thenn come back. I would be more worried about the airline. is it going to cost a lot to change your flight? |

Began Gap Year Trip Six Years Ago |
The airline doesn't care. You've already paid for your trip back, so the seat is paid for.
The length of your legal stay in the country is determined by the amount of time you are permitted by your visa. From there, its a matter of getting into other countries without a return ticket, or ticket out of the country in question, which may be easy or hard depending on the country. |

Orange, I will not be worried about the SA government. You may need to check though for the countries you will be proceeding to. If you need visas anywhere else, it would be better to get them in the States rather than here.
And BTW, you MUST contact me so we can have our own Boots nall get together. |
