I am not at present planning a trip to Africa. However, I have wondered if there is a good stopover combo flight so that you can see two different regions of the continent. Has anyone done it and if so, where/with cwhich airlines?

Viaggero,
I don't think there is a correct answer here but here are a few suggestions: AMS --> CAI --> DAR/NBO/JNB/EBB AMS --> DAR/NBO --> JNB AMS --> DAR/NBO --> EBB AMS --> RBA --> DAR/JNB/EBB I believe CAI/RBA is your best be for mid stop as tour attractions are not far from the air port and would not necessarily require a prolonged stop over. I believe Egypt Air accommodates most stops as does Lufthansa. |

So it would be impossible or expensive to do a West Africa stop on the way to East Africa? The places I would like to see first in Africa are Sengal/Gambia, Ethiopia, Madagascar, and Namibia. When I've checked into prices in the past, it is as expensive or more so to travel there as it is to Asia - and travel is cheaper in Asia.
So, I figured, a stopover flight would ease some of the pain of the flight price. |

The bulk of the flights go East/North/Egypt/South Africa as those are most popular. Being more popular of course means more supply which lowers the price.
Not impossible, just expensive. If you have the time and resource you could go overland south-north or north to south on the western track. I ran into someone who had done Africa overlands three times (East/Central/West) and he found the western route the most interesting (albeit the most challenging). Good Luck! |

Flights within Africa are still quite expensive. The budget airline boom still hasn't hit Africa.
Here are some budget airlines that fly from Europe to Morocco and some other African countries: easyJet, Transavia, Ryanair, Atlas Blue Air Arabia- Air Arabia flies is an Emirati budget airline that flies from the Middle East to other Asian cities but they also have flights to Egypt and the Sudan Air Berlin - This German budget airline flies to Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, South Africa, Namibia, Mauritius, Kenya Condor - has flights from Europe to Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Cape Verde, Kenya, Tanzania, Seychelles, Mauritius. A round-trip flight from Berlin to Kilimanjaro cost about $1000 US. Want more info about traveling in Morocco? Sign up for our Morocco e-course at http://www.journeybeyondtravel.com |

If you're interested in Sudan and Ethiopia, flights out of Washington D.C. are pretty decent right now. You can get to either Khartoum or Addis Ababa for under $1200 with a stop in Rome or some southern European city. Then from there it should be reasonable to get to other destinations in Africa.
