Can someone recommend a good place to stay in Dar Es Salaam?
I was browsing the internet and didn't really find a place with an (even slight) wow factor - something fairly central and/or close to the bus stations, as I'm arriving quite late and I'm leaving immediately to the South & Mozambique probably the day afterwards.

I don't want to shell out on something expensive (unless it's top notch - but those places seem to be way out North anyway which is too far) - I don'y want something completely in tatters either - I'll have plenty of these once on the road.

Thanks

Try the Durbin Hotel.

It is nothing fantastic, but it is a decent value.

A/C, cable, breakfast included. You can walk from the bus station, but you'll want to take a cab at night. it should not be more than 3000 Tsh (probably 2000).

The official rate is $33 USD or 20,000 Tsh for a local / visitor with a work visa. I suggest you simnply say you have a visa. I don't think they'll check.

If the do plead poor and offer to treat the woman at the desk to a soda and pay the local rate. It worked for me.
