I might be moving to Casablanca this summer. I've been offered a job and would live there for at least 2 years.
I've never even been to Morocco. So I'm really dying to hear any first hand information.

I'm going to avoid saying anything myself about Casa, but you should google " the view from Fez" and the "Morocco Report"....the former is obviously more geared towards the city in its title but it has some good coverage of current events in Morocco and is one of the few blogs generated within the country in English. Both blogs also have a good number of links to other sources of info where you can get an idea about Casablanca and life in Morocco.

I'd also suggest, since the book takes place in Casa, reading Tahir Shah's "The Caliph's House" for a very entertaining read about an expat trying to set up life with his family in the country.

Happy reading and good luck!

I got just back from a week in Morocco, I was in Tangier, Fez and Casablanca. Only was in Casablanca for 2 days, but from what I saw it looks like your typical urban city, with some nice upper-class areas and a lot of dirty not so nice places. There is not a whole in the way of history and culture, at least compaerd to Fez

The country takes a little getting used to, but once you get past that, I think its a good experience

Yes, Casa is a city of industry and is like any other urban city really. I think it's rather ugly compared to the other more culturally established cities around Morocco. However,it is a metropolitan city and if you like shopping, a variety of different restaurants, cafes, and other places to hangout, Maarif is the place to check out in Casablanca.

Casa is centrally located so you can easily travel to other parts of Morocco. Also, more and more budget airlines fly from Casa to a few major European cities.
