I will go to Agadir/Morocco in December and have 4 weeks time. I wonder if it is better to head north/east to Algeria and Tunisia or to head south to Mauretania and Senegal ? What are your favourites and experiences in these countries ?

You should do some more reasearch if you plan to go to that area. You DO NOT want to go to Algeria. 75,000 dead folks can't be wrong. seriously, the FIS put notice out in 1994 about their feelings on foreigners. Going to there is a death wish. As far as going to the south out of Morrocco I know there has been some disputes on the border and I'm not even sure you can get across. You can get a ferry to tunisia I think, but depending on where you come from, lybia may be off limits. you'll better off getting a flight out to egypt or something.

I would not do West Africa as an independent traveler. It is not safe and there is an undercurrent of hatred of whites. We were just there with a cruise. We had some problems with fuel in Senegal and got to spend the night. We went out to dinner with 2 men from the ship. When we exited the cab at the pier, one of the men was the victim of a pickpocket. Upon arrival at the ship, we learned that one of our crew was beaten and robbed on the dock by a guard! I liked East Africa much better. You will love Morocco. Go to Marrakesh, Fez etc. while you are there.

You have truly 4 weeks time? didn't You wanna write 4 months? If not, do You really think You will have time to put a couple of countries into that visit? Well, it depends of course: You might be one of those who only take brief glances at a country....... I suggest: 4 weeks morocco. And come back next year for another 4 weeks to see the rest of morocco. And the year after for the last bits and pieces of morocco.
