There are different routes used to get from London - Cape Town overland but which overall is the best and why.

I'm researching for trip next Nov (2006) and want to find out more views before committing to a route.

Thanks

I would say thats an impossible question to answer

There are no good or bad as such, and the political and geographic issues make these routes change very quickly.

What criteria do you have - how fast are you travelling - how are you travelling ?,

How adventerous do you want to be , you taking passengers ? - what do they want to see on the way

Be a bit more specific and I'm sure people can help (I know a couple of ex drago drivers who know loads)

Do you want to go east africa or west? I know that if you are going through east africa, you will likely have to include some flights as Sudan is messed up and in the way of the classic Cairo to Cape route. Ethiopia is having some problems to, although it is still somewhat travelable, but not around Eritrea. I don't know as much about West Africa, but I think Angola might be a problem.

There are so many routes you could take, may I suggest starting by getting an africa guidebook of some sort, then deciding which countries appeal to you most and planning you route from there? And checking allafrica.com, embassy warnings, other news sources to see which countries are safe or not. Though this could change while you are planning, several countries have elections this year. You have to be flexable travelling in africa!
