Alright, bear with me guys because as the subject heading states...this is indeed a stupid question. Anyways, my dad worked in Tansania a few years back at one of the diamond mines and he recounted a few crazy stories to me about how brutal life can be there. One story I called bullshit on was him saying that the locals would sometime sleep on the sides of the road to avoid being bitten by poisonous snakes! Apparently the snakes would not venture near the roads in fear of being run over, so the locals started to sleep there when the snake population exploded.

Am I right in thinking this is bullshit or is my dad the old man from Big Fish?

Snakes are very adept at feeling vibrations so near a busy road they may be intimidated by the cars driving past. Though I would think the dangers of sleeping on the road would be worse than sleeping at the mine. That said I know nothing about snakes populations in Tanzania.
