I am considering taking a job in Niamey, Niger. I have absolutely no idea what it is like there. Has anyone been and have any advice? I'd be living there for 2 years. It's one of a few of my options and I'm hoping to hear from some actual accounts before I make any decisions. Just for note I am a single woman so I think that might make a difference.

Hi Stella,
I was in Niamey a couple of years ago and find the city reasonably clean and modern compared with the other West African cities I've been to. There are a number of big hotels, banks, a museum. The local people were friendly. There are a lot of NGO offices there, so I assume there are a lot of expats around. There wasn't much to do (ie sights to see), but it's worth heading out to Agadir or Zinder. I wouldn't recommend going to the zoo in Niamey (horrible place). |

Thanks for the reply. I've heard good things about the city. The bad things I've heard are what you'd expect from people visiting Africa. I've actually never been to the continent so it will be a whole new experience.
