Lost in Place |
I'm heading for Africa and Uganda this summer. My plan includes a meeting with gorillas.
I know the circa price for a safari and that only six people a day are allowed to see them, which makes it necessary to book well in advance. Can anyone help me where I can buy this "pass"? I'm planning on getting there myself, at the Uganda/Congo border if I'm not mistaken. If there is a good all-included-safari from Kampala that would be interesting too. Thank you! You can buy the pass at Kampala and there are several groups of gorillas to be tracked at Bwindi Impenetrable Forest on the Ugandan side of things. I just took a bus ride from Nairobi over there, got my pass the next day (this was back in the latter part of 2002 and it cost $280, I believe), to see the Habinyanja-A group ... another many hours of buses to get down to the town nbext to the park (and by next to, I mean several miles away -- but you can get a motorbike ride there or just walk like I did ... there is actuall a path to your right you can take to get to the border of the Congo, but the locals I met did not seem to think that' dbe too smart an idea ... instead, we had some banana beer
Woke up the next morning, drove thirty minutes to our starting off point, walked for over an hour wondering if we were going to see the buggers and then there they all were, from the Silverback to the little babies beating their chests -- the only rule, save not having a cold, is they kept us following them for 1 hour exactly ... but it was one heck of an hour ... I wish you the best -- and if you want to see some pics of the gorillas from there, check out the Uganda section of my website ... Cheers, AaA |
