I am traveling to Ghana this July 2008, and I will probably be staying at the Crystal Hostel in Accra. Does anyone know of this hostel?

Also, any ideas/comments on where to go and what to do in Accra? I am looking for journalism and volunteer opportunities in the city.

A journalism opportunity would be to swing by some of the near costal towns that have yet to be rebuilt after a hurricane of many years ago. In some areas, it still looks like "the day after".

Another intriguing one might be to Aburi, a hilltop village just northeast of Accra. They make TONS of djembes there, the streets are lined with walls of them. And, at the botanical gardens there, you can sample cocoa beans right outta' the pod.

A relaxing area would be Kokrobite beach, long stretches of sand & palm trees & a few unpopulated huts. Wonderfully NOT developed with tons of hotels, etc. (probably the cost of all the needed infrastructure--roads, piplelines/cables for sewer/gas/water/elect. etc. would be cost-prohibitive). Nearby, is a very cool center for African rhythm & dance, where people can come & live & learn, you guessed it, African rhythms & dances---the students earn their "keep" by putting on a really cool show each evening.
