Does anyone here know of an easy way to schedule a camel/camping trek in morocco, possibly from ouarzazate? This would be last minute, probably next week while in Morocco. Is anyone familiar with berber tours?

Thanks very much.

i hit ouarzazate after i did a camel trek, but mine was based in merzouga. but i got a seat in a land rover driven out of rissani and it was a relatively short and FUN ride out to merzouga, which is very small. i stayed at a berber lodge and had a wonderful time. there was a massive sandstorm during the camel trek (which really made me appreciate the guide's lesson in tying a headscarf!), and we even had to dismount and lie beside the camels and use them as wind shields for several minutes. at dinner that evening, one of the "innkeepers" offered to do a pre-sunrise walk to a high dune to watch the sunrise over the sahara for a few extra bucks. it's early, but DO IT. i would not advise, however, venturing out into the dunes yourself, esp. at night, even though you can see some fires burning out there. i've heard it's not the safest decision you could make.

My mother returned recently from Morocco and say there is no problem to book whatever trek you want just do it on the spot and use some discretion as to who to go with. I wrote a little something about backpacking through Morocco backpacking through Morocco here.

I wish I could go but it doesn't seems as I'll have the time or the money anytime soon.

I would not miss the cameltrek over night in the desert and the Merzouga area dunes are the best. This is high season, so might be a little harder. The quality REALLY varies and if you are not careful you can get sick and they are dirty and overloaded with tourists. I know whole piles of people who have gotten sick on the food. Many of the nomads there live with no running water in homes made out of dirt and have a whole different standard on clean.

The very best people Les Nomades I would email them or better yet, skype call.

The ouarzazate area is beautiful, but not where you want to do your camel trek and over night. The best place to do that is in the gorgeous orange, huge duned Merzouga area. That is the top place to do it for a reason. You will probably only sleep in the Sahara once in your life, you might as well do it right.
